Christmas Under the Stars, BYUtv’s annual holiday concert series, returns Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. with Christian pop superstar Lauren Daigle headlining this year’s musical celebration. While fans eagerly await Daigle’s debut on BYUtv, we thought we’d share some of our favorite performances from years past, plus give a sneak peek at Daigle’s upcoming special.

The Band Perry - “The First Noel”

The sibling trio The Band Perry graced the Christmas Under the Stars stage in 2016. Their performance of “The First Noel” is at once intimate and ethereal, and expertly captures the joy and peace of the season. It’s a rich and fitting reminder of the true meaning of the season.

John Legend - “Merry Christmas, Baby”

Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony winner John Legend brought down the house in 2019 with his electrifying take on this holiday staple. With a jazzy, big band, boisterous sound, Legend wows the crowd and reminds us that Christmas is a time of celebration.

Train - “Please Come Home for Christmas”

Being separated from loved ones during the holidays can make the season anything but bright. Train’s acoustic performance from their 2018 concert is achingly perfect in its melancholy. Lead singer Pat Monahan’s vocals bring a depth and vulnerability that assures us that even if we don’t get what we want for Christmas, we can still have hope for the future.

BYU Vocal Point - “Joy to the World”

The a cappella group wowed the crowd during their 2016 concert. Vocal Point’s rich harmonies blend together with guests Madilyn Paige and One Voice Children’s Choir, creating a rousing, joyful noise worthy of praise. Their modern take on a timeless classic is powerful celebration of the birth of the Savior.

Lauren Daigle - “White Christmas”

Daigle grew up in Louisiana, and never knew snow at Christmastime. But her take on the Irving Berlin classic will make you expect a blizzard in the Bayou state at any moment. Her rich, smoky vocals pair expertly with the laid-back jazz accompaniment. Daigle delivers nostalgia with effortless aplomb.

The Band Perry, John Legend, Train and BYU Vocal Point’s Christmas Under the Stars” concerts are available to watch now for free on the BYUtv app. Lauren Daigle’s concert premieres December 6 at 7:00 pm, and will be available to stream on the BYUtv app.
