The United States remains in limbo as it awaits to find out who will be president for the next four years, as President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden still remain in the running to win.
What happened:
- A lot. The 2020 race didn’t pan out exactly as experts and pollsters predicted. Trump closed off a number of paths to Biden’s victory, winning Florida handily and taking Ohio.
- But Biden still has a lot of paths to winning. Gaining Arizona was a good step forward for the Democrats.
- A lot will come down to Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia and Pennsylvania — all states that were deemed tossups in the final days of the race, according to The New York Times.
Paths to victory
Trump’s path to victory centers around the Great Lakes, according to The New York Times.
- Trump would need to overperform in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, keeping the states he flipped in 2016, according to The New York Times.
- Trump would also need to keep Georgia and not let it flip.
- Trump’s path remains really unchanged from 2016. His victories on Tuesday night mostly closed off victory paths for Biden.
Biden could become president in a number ways, according to The New York Times.
- Option 1: Arizona, Georgia, Nevada. He will reach 270 easily that way.
- Option 2: Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin. He can lose Pennsylvania that way and not worry about the rest of the map.
- Option 3: The blue wall path. He could snag Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and win the presidency.
