The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a new guidance that recommends people embrace “universal mask use” when you’re outside your home.
- The CDC said the United States has entered “a phase of high-level transmission” because of the holiday season and cold weather, according to The Washington Post.
- Face mask use has been largely encouraged for when you’re indoors, but this is the first time that the CDC has advised it for all Americans.
Biden’s plea
On Thursday night, President-elect Joe Biden said he would ask all Americans to wear face masks during the first 100 days of his president, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
- “Just 100 days to mask. Not forever — 100 days,” Biden said. “I think we’ll see a significant reduction if that occurs with vaccinations and masking, to drive down the numbers considerably.”
Experts have long said that wearing face masks could help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

John Bush, a professor of applied mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and MIT colleague Martin Z. Bazant created a new tool that can help you see how dangerous being inside will be in any given scenario, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.
