The 2020-21 high school boys basketball season tips off this Tuesday for 3A, 2A and 1A schools, and realignment has certainly created a new look for several of the state’s regions and classifications — especially at the top
The favorites heading into the season according to the Deseret News annual coaches preseason rankings are Juan Diego (3A), San Juan (2A) and Panguitch (1A), and only Panguitch is in the same classification it was a year ago.
Juan Diego is moving down from 4A after reaching the semifinals a year ago, while San Juan is moving down from 3A after narrowly losing to Juab in last year’s title game.
Layton Christian checks in at No. 2 in the 3A preseason rankings as it bumps up from 2A. The Eagles won last year’s 2A title.
Panguitch is the defending state champ in 1A after an impressive march to the title as a No. 4 seed a year ago.
