The 2020-21 high school girls basketball season tips off this Tuesday for 3A, 2A and 1A, and familiar faces begin the season as the favorites once again.

In the Deseret News annual coaches preseason rankings, Morgan (3A), Beaver (2A) and Piute (1A) open the season as the team to beat, and Morgan and Piute are both defending state champs.

Morgan edged Emery in last year’s 3A state championship, and according to the state’s 3A coaches they’re the two favorites again this season.

North Summit is the 2A defending state champ, but it will open the season ranked No. 2 in the Deseret News preseason rankings behind top-ranked Beaver.

Defending 1A champion Piute narrowly edged Valley for the preseason top spot, the same team it beat to win last year’s state title.
