NBA 2K22 shared the first details for its upcoming third season of the NBA MyTeam mode, and things are going to get chilly.

This story will be updated as more details for NBA MyTeam Season 3 arrive.

What is MyTeam mode?

NBA 2K22 is a simulation basketball video game that features multiple game modes within it, including a normal mode where you compete with real NBA teams and franchise mode, where you can control the front office of an NBA franchise.

MyTeam is a mode where you get to build a fantasy NBA roster and play games using those rosters. You build a team by using digital cards of those players. Most players can be earned by opening digital packs of cards (like real life basketball cards), playing the game or using in-game currency to buy player cards in the game’s auction house.

  • Each card has a different tier attached to it. The order of the tiers is: silver, gold, emerald, sapphire, ruby, amethyst, diamond, pink diamond, galaxy opal and dark matter.
  • Every 30 to 60 days, NBA 2K will release a new season of the mode, giving gamers a chance to earn new rewards. Each season has a specific theme.

In a statement to the Deseret News, 2K announced that its third season will be called “Iced Out.”

  • “Season 3: ‘Iced Out’ focuses on the clutch gene, showcasing Damian Lillard’s ability to be unfazed by any situation and burying the competition with some of the coldest game-winning shots in NBA history,” according to 2K.

Details of NBA 2K22 MyTeam Season 3:

The new season will feature City Jerseys and City Courts in MyTeam.

  • You earn the franchise by getting a win Triple Threat Online: The 100 using 3 players from a specific team.
  • For courts, you need to match that franchise’s single-game scoring record in a game.

A new Domination mode will be added mid-season with Pink Diamond reward.

  • Per 2K’s blog: “Similar to last year, you will NOT need to complete the Current, All-Time, and NBA 75 Dominations to compete in this fourth set of 33 games.”

A “Beyond Level 40” agenda group will return.

  • But the reward is key. You will get an option pack of any Pink Diamond reward from the Limited, Draft, Ascension, TTOnline/Offline modes. So if you miss out on a card, or you miss a weekend of Limited, you can still get that card.

The season will start with a Signature Challenge with Damian Lillard.

  • You will earn a Ruby Perimeter-Centric Damian Lillard player coach card for winning.

What is Clutch Time mode?

The MyTeam mode will introduce the new Clutch Time mode, which is located in the Pink Diamond Plaza (as found in the city in the MyCareer mode).

  • Clutch Time is “where players can experience four-point shots and fast-paced play designed to reward three-point specialists,” according to NBA 2K.

In Clutch Time mode, you use a full-sized court to play a regular five versus five game of basketball. However, each game only lasts five minutes and each possession lasts 14 seconds.

  • There’s a 50-win ladder each season. After most wins, you get a wheel spin. There will be a Pink Diamond-level player card on the wheel that you can get after every win.
  • Players will advance along a 10-game tier throughout the season. If you lose three games in a row, you get reset to the start of the tier. You will never be reset to below a tier until the next season.
  • Players earn rewards at the 10-, 30- and 50-win mark. At 10 wins, you get a Ruby-level player. At 30 wins, you get a Diamond player. At 50 wins, you get a Pink Diamond player.
  • After you get 50 wins, each win gives you an additional wheel spin for a chance at the wheel-based Pink Diamond player.
  • The Pink Diamond player from reaching 50 wins will be different than the Pink Diamond player on the wheel.
