BYU led most of the game but dropped a 69-67 setback to Vanderbilt in the Diamond Head Classic semifinals Thursday night in Honolulu.

Here are three keys to the Cougars’ loss:

  • BYU had 19 turnovers and the Commodores scored 18 points off those turnovers.
  • Vanderbilt star Scotty Pippen Jr. scored a game-high 23 points, including the Commodores’ final 16 points.
  • Alex Barcello scored a team-high 15 points. His jumper in the paint with five seconds remaining that could have tied the score, and potentially forced overtime, rimmed out.
