“Thor: Love and Thunder” will take place before “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” its director says. That makes sense since “Thor: Love and Thunder” will drop in 2021, whereas the release date of “Guardians 3” hasn’t been announced yet.

A new set of pictures from the new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie “Thor: Love and Thunder” revealed new looks for stars Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt.

The photos, which you can see below, show Thor wearing a costume that looks like something an ’80s rock band would wear. The same could be said for StarLord.

Another photo shows the two stars together near some sort of green car.

Interestingly, Thor has his long blonde hair back, which had been cut in “Thor: Ragnarok” and remained short in “Avengers: Infinity War.” It grew back for “Avengers: Endgame,” though.

Another pair of set photos show Kraglin and Nebula together, too. Nebula looks pretty similar to how she did at the end of “Endgame.” But Kraglin looks to be wearing a rocker-themed costume similar to Thor’s outfit.

Why does it matter?

The Thor outfit might speak to what could happen in the upcoming film. Per ComicBook.com, Thor’s new outfit “looks inspired by the Marvel Comics character Thunderstrike, aka Eric Masterson, who once merged with Thor and took over his mantle as a member of the Avengers during one of Odinson’s absences before becoming a hero in his own right.”

What we know

“Thor: Love and Thunder” will be a massive new film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a star-studded cast.

First off, it will feature the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. And, as I wrote for the Deseret News, she will play the role of Thor in the new film — a storyline that was similar in the Marvel comics.

We also learned back in March 2020 that “Thor: Love and Thunder” would feature characters from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, as I wrote about for the Deseret News.

The cast will also be joined by Christian Bale, who will play Gorr the God Butcher (there were rumors he would play Beta Ray Bill), according to Collider.

And, more recently, we heard reports that Matt Damon will be joining the film. It’s unclear what his role will be, if any, as the Deseret News reported.
