Mads Mikkelsen has been cast in a starring role opposite Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones 5.”
Though details regarding Mikkelsen’s role haven’t been revealed. Sam Barsanti suggested in an article for A.V. Club that the actor will likely play a villain. “It seems pretty safe to assume (based on his entire U.S. film and TV career, his music video career, and his video game career) that he’s going to be some kind of nightmarish villain who is also very charming,” he wrote.
Mikkelsen has previously appeared in other major franchises including “Star Wars,” “Marvel,” and “James Bond” and will play Gellert Grindelwald in the forthcoming installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series.
Earlier this month, the Deseret News reported that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the star of the Amazon series “Fleabag,” also signed on to join the project as well as John Williams, the legendary composer who created the original “Indiana Jones” score.
Variety reports that the upcoming “Indiana Jones” film marks first time in the franchise’s history that Steven Spielberg won’t be sitting in the director’s chair. “Indiana Jones 5” will instead be directed by James Mangold, who recently directed the 2020 Academy Award best picture nominee “Ford v Ferrari.” Spielberg will serve as a producer for the new film alongside LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
As previously reported by the Deseret News, production for the new “Indiana Jones” will kick off this summer and the film is scheduled to hit theaters in July of 2022.
