“American Idol” fans will have to wait a little longer to find out the final singer heading to the top 10.
Why isn’t ‘American Idol’ on tonight?
- “American Idol,” which this season has aired on Sunday and Monday, won’t be airing tonight.
- Instead, a new two-hour program highlighting the 50-year influence of “Sesame Street” will air at 7 p.m. MT on ABC. The special features a number of guests, including Gloria Estefan, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend.
- “American Idol” also didn’t air last night because of the 93rd Academy Awards.
When will ‘American Idol’ return?
- “American Idol” will return on Sunday, May 2, and from that point on will only air on Sundays, according to Parade.
- During the most recent episode of “American Idol,” called “The Comeback,” 10 finalists from this past season of the show — singers who didn’t have a chance to perform on the official “Idol” stage because of the pandemic — sang for a spot in the top 10 (at this point, “Idol” had announced nine singers moving forward), the Deseret News reported.
- The new episode on May 2 will reveal the singer who got the most votes to move into the show’s top 10.
- The May 2 episode will be Disney-themed, featuring the top 10 contestants performing tunes from the Disney songbook, Parade reported.
- Voting will take place in real time, with the show revealing its top seven at the end of the episode.
