Is George Lucas back with the “Star Wars” franchise?
The George Lucas rumor, explained
Multiple reports suggest Lucas, the creator of “Star Wars,” is back in creative control under the Lucasfilm banner, which is now owned by Disney.
In fact, one report suggests Lucas is involved with a new trilogy of films.
- “Rumors are again flying that George Lucas will be involved with Star Wars again as this time it’s actually claimed that Lucas will help bankroll a new trilogy, which sounds like it would mean Lucas would be actively involved as a producer and not just an executive producer,” according to Cosmic Book News.
The rumor was publicized by the Overlord DVD YouTube channel, which has shared other alleged insider “Star Wars” information in the past.
- In fact, the YouTube channel first leaked the rumor about a potential retcon of the sequel trilogy — which would make all of the events with Rey, Finn and Poe not a part of the “Star Wars” canon anymore. This rumor has not proven to be true as of yet.
The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm have not commented on the Lucas rumor. Nothing is official.
