Marvel fans exploded in excitement over the weekend when they discovered that the ending of “WandaVision” had been changed — with subtle differences and two potential hints toward a future Marvel project.

What happened in the ‘WandaVision’ ending?

OK. So the original version of “WandaVision” ended with a post-credits scene where the camera zooms in on a cabin in the middle of nowhere. We see Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) sitting alone on the cabin steps, drinking tea. The tea kettle goes off. She heads inside. But the camera shows us that the true Wanda — now under the moniker of the Scarlet Witch — is practicing dark magic, and that the version of her sitting outside is merely a projection.

What’s different in the new ‘WandaVision’ ending?

The new version of the scene is mostly the same. However, the new version on Disney+ has some minor changes to it — ones you wouldn’t notice unless the internet told you they were there.

The first change shows plenty more trees in the open wilderness where Wanda is hiding. You can see the difference in the heavy amount of trees in the screenshots below.

There’s also something ... floating ... in the background of the shot. This wasn’t there before. It really looks like an invisible cloak weaving its way through the mountains. In a way, it’s almost pretty creepy that there’s some ghost form moving through the background.

Fans have already speculated that it’s actually Doctor Strange floating through the air in his astral form. You can sort of see the resemblance to a cape, which Doctor Strange wears. We know that “WandaVision” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” are linked up, so there’s a chance this will come into place down the road.

Oh, you want more? OK, good. There’s one other Easter egg you’ll spot if you rewatch the “WandaVision” finale — only it’s not in the final scene. If you back up a little bit and watch the end credits, you’ll see a list of songs that are being credited for the episode.

One of them includes “Doctor Strange Theme” by Michael Giacchino. This was not there during the original run.

What do the ‘WandaVision’ changes mean?

They could mean a lot of things. The simplest answer is that Disney+ and Marvel decided to change the scene to fit more with what will eventually happen in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Maybe they’re making the shot more consistent with the film so fans could go back and watch them together.

There’s also speculation that Disney+ added the “Doctor Strange” theme song and the changes to the credits just to modify the content. And the “astral form” of Doctor Strange is an editing error. So it could just be a case of Disney+ toying with some mechanics and not expecting fans to find them.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s one theory that the changes of “WandaVision” are a real-time change spawned by Loki. That’s right. The theory suggests that Loki and Sylvie messing with the timelines in “Loki” are now changing other Marvel productions, including “WandaVision.”

We’ll have to wait to see if any more details come out about these changes. But for now, feel free to watch the ending again on Disney+ and see what changes you might notice.

I’ve reached out to Disney+ about the changes. Disney+ has not responded yet.
