The 2021 high school volleyball season officially begins Thursday, and familiar faces will open the season as favorites based on coaches voting in the Deseret News preseason rankings.

Lone Peak (6A), Timpview (5A), Sky View (4A), Union (3A), North Summit (2A) and Rich (1A) each were voted preseason No. 1, and all but Rich enters the season as the defending state champ in their classification.

Valley is the defending 1A champ, but it begins the season outside of the top five.

Three of the five reigning champs return their all-state MVP from a year ago, a great foundation to build on as they seek a repeat.
