Gabby Petito’s Instagram account disappeared for four hours early Wednesday before appearing again.
Petito, a 22-year-old from Long Island, has been missing since the end of August. She failed to return home from a road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.
- The couple traveled in a converted van. Only Laundrie returned and the van was recovered in North Port, Florida, where the two had been living together.
The couple posted photos and videos of their trip on Instagram and YouTube. Petito’s Instagram feed included photos from Mystic Hot Springs and Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands and Arches national parks. The final photo from Petito showed her holding a small knit pumpkin in front of a mural of butterflies in Ogden, Utah.
But on Wednesday morning, the Instagram account had disappeared.
An Instagram spokesperson told Insider that the account was taken down by mistake because the company was investigating fake Petito accounts.
- “The account was removed in error for impersonation and has now been reinstated,” the spokesperson said.
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office in Wyoming said it is looking for Petito and can be reached by anyone with tips about her disappearance.
