BYU (16-4, 4-1) defeated San Diego Thursday night at the Marriott Center, 79-71.

Here are three keys to the Cougars’ win:

  • BYU guard Alex Barcello poured in a game-high 22 points, including a wicked crossover jumper in the first half, and a 25-foot 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining.

  • The Cougars had three other players score in double figures — Fousseyni Traore (14), Seneca Knight (14) and Gideon George (10). Traore recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds.
  • BYU and USD were tied at 31 at halftime. The Cougars built a double-digit lead in the second half thanks to a 22-10 run midway through the half. BYU shot 69% in the second half.
