High school football: RPI rankings Week 7 update, American Fork takes over top spot in 6A after routing Lehi

American Fork is the new No. 1 in the Class 6A RPI rankings after it routed former No. 1 Lehi in Week 6, 62-28, while the top spots in the other classifications remain unchanged.

Box Elder (5A), Sky View (4A), Richfield (3A), San Juan (2A), Duchesne (1A) and Rich (1A 8-player) stayed at No. 1 in their respective classifications.

The UHSAA uses the RPI rankings to seed the state tournament after the regular season concludes in Week 10.

While there wasn’t much change at the top in the seven classifications, there was still notable change throughout many of the classifications.

Class 5A saw wild fluctuations throughout the rankings, with 14 teams moving up or down at least four places. The biggest jump belonged to Wasatch, which leapt from No. 21 to 15 with its 35-34 win over Maple Mountain, while Highland fell seven places from No. 13 to No. 20 after losing to Alta, 34-14.

In 4A, Crimson Cliffs made a huge jump from No. 8 to No. 3 after steamrolling Snow Canyon 41-7, while Green Canyon and Mountain Crest each fell four places.

Grantsville had a notable jump in 3A as well, vaulting from No. 8 to No. 4 with its 27-15 win over Ben Lomond.
