The Deseret News will be on the ground in Italy to cover the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Games. The contingent will be led by Sarah Jane Weaver, editor of the Deseret News; Lisa Riley Roche, whose journalism career includes covering every Olympic Games since 1996; and photojournalist Scott G Winterton.

This reporting team will deliver timely updates, enterprise stories and photography from Italy with a special emphasis on inspirational stories from the athletes and the competition, decisions from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the experience of Utah’s Olympic delegation. This group of more than 110 officials will be in Milan to observe and learn as they prepare for the Utah Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2034.

“We’ll be there to cover the competition, but we will be paying close attention to the realities of organizing the biggest sporting event in the world,” said Weaver. “The logistics, the governance and the constant push to protect credibility. These issues have a direct relevance to the Deseret News as we plan our coverage for the 2034 Winter Olympics in Utah.”

All reporting, photography and real-time updates will be gathered in a dedicated Olympics blog on Deseret.com, designed as a single destination for readers to follow the full scope of Deseret News coverage.
