The squeal-generating finale was a part of the students’ ‘Cereal Dominoes’ service project

Students at Millcreek’s Eastwood Elementary School turned a creative schoolwide service project into support for families in need, collecting more than 1,000 boxes of cereal during a “Cereal Dominoes” event organized by the school’s student council.

It all culminated Friday morning as students got to line up and knock down the boxes — dominoes style — to the delight of the entire student body.

Built around this year’s student council motto, “We may be small stars, but we can have a stellar impact,” the project challenged students to demonstrate how small acts of kindness can create meaningful change. Students donated unopened boxes of cereal, which student leaders arranged into a giant domino chain before toppling them in a dramatic chain reaction.

The collected cereal was donated to the Granite Education Foundation for distribution to families in need throughout Granite School District. Despite being a small school, Eastwood surpassed expectations, collecting well over 1,000 boxes with support from the Eastwood community as well as donations from Walmart, Macey’s and Smith’s.
