Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli have been mourning the death of Giannulli’s parents this year, in addition to their worries about the college admissions scandal, according to People magazine.

Giannulli’s father, Gene, and his mother, Nancy, both died this year. Gene passed away in January and Nancy died in July, according to an unnamed source who spoke to People magazine.

“It’s been a very hard time for them, particularly for Mossimo, who lost both of his parents,” the source told People.

“It’s been an emotional time for them,” the source said. “But the court case has actually brought them closer together — their marriage is stronger than ever.”

Loughlin and Giannulli were named among dozens of parents in the college admissions scandal. The couple is accused of paying $500,000 in bribes so their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose Giannulli, could be crew team recruits for the University of Southern California. The couple pleaded not guilty — unlike fellow celebrity Felicity Huffman — and plan to fight their battle in court.

Rumors suggested for months that Loughlin and Giannulli might be headed for divorce. But a source close to the couple told Entertainment Tonight that the divorce rumor was “absolutely untrue.”

Loughlin and Giannulli have made multiple court appearances as they weigh whether to be represented together in the court case. Experts expressed concern about having the same representation, as reported by the Deseret News.

Lawyer Rachel Stockman said it’s good for them to be represented together.

“I think, given the circumstances of what they’re up against with the trial, it’s probably the smartest strategy they have yet because jurors would have to believe both of them are lying,” Stockman said.
