Kanye West announced Sunday that his new album “Jesus Is King” will drop Friday.
West returned to Twitter to make the announcement. Previously, the album was rumored to drop on Sept. 27.
West tweeted a photo with the album title and release date. The picture shows a blue vinyl record.
West released a trailer last week for his upcoming Imax film “Jesus Is King,” which will also debut Friday. The trailer includes a choir singing scripture from the book of Mark, according to CNN.
West’s album’s release date has been rumored for about two months now. Kim Kardashian West tweeted a photo that appeared to show the track list for the album with a release date for Sept. 27.
The album will likely feature gospel music. He told a crowd at a Coachella Sunday Service that the album will have gospel vibes, according to Pitchfork.
“I wasn’t fully saved during Coachella,” West reportedly said. “I came to know the truth and joy of Jesus. This album is an expression of the gospel.”
West teased the album in New York City at the end of September. As The New York Times reported, the songs shared at the event did not include any cursing or swears. In fact, all the collaborators, including Ty Dolla $ign, Pusha T and No Malice, didn’t swear, either.
“This has been an incredible journey,” West told the crowd at the event in New York City, according to The New York Times.
- “By having the luxury of having an amazing choir around me every Sunday,” he continued, “I came to know the truth and the joy of Jesus Christ. This album has been made to be an expression of the gospel and to share the gospel and the truth of what Jesus has done to me. When I think of the goodness of Jesus and all that he does for me, my soul cries out.”
