The next “Ghostbusters” movie apparently has a full title, along with several nicknames and tentative titles.
What happened: “Ghostbusters 3” — which has the code name “Ghostbusters 2020” or “GB2020” may have the full title of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” according to Italian movie news website BadTaste.It.
- There has been no confirmation of the sequel yet.
The setup: Director Jason Reitman previously called “Ghostbusters 3” by a different title during an interview at the the “Ghostbusters” Fan Fest, per ComicBook.com.
- “I feel like part of making what we call GB20, the next one, is a form of archeology. It is oddly in many ways an archaeological film,” Reitman said. “And we are kind of looking through the past — and I’ve been asking myself all the time — ‘What is it that makes it a ‘Ghostbusters’ movie? What makes a ‘Ghostbusters’ ghost a ‘Ghostbusters’ ghost?’ So getting to see this original footage has been extraordinary. It’s been like finding the hidden opening to a pyramid.”
Flashback: Disney released a teaser for the new “Ghostbusters” film in January, announcing the new film. Per Entertainment Weekly, the film will be “set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie.”
- “I’ve always thought of myself as the first ‘Ghostbusters’ fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” the younger Reitman said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Release: The film is set to be released in summer 2020.
