Disney Plus had a strong debut Tuesday.

What happened: The new streaming service, which debuted Tuesday across phones and television screens everywhere, had an estimated 3.2 million downloads for iOS and Android, according to a report from Variety.

The data came from a research firm called Apptopia, which estimates downloads for apps.

Some more findings include:

  • 89% of downloads were in the U.S.
  • 9% of downloads were in Canada
  • 2% of downloads were in the Netherlands.

By comparison: Disney Plus outperformed Netflix during that time span.

  • Netflix had 662,000 downloads across the world during that timespan.
  • In the U.S., Canada and Netherlands, Netflix had 140,000 downloads in that time frame.

Yes, but: Netflix has been around long enough that most people have either downloaded or decided on whether or not they would download it.

Before launch: Previous data from the analytics firm Jumpshot found that the app had at least 1 million subscribers by mid-October.

Th analytics estimate that Disney Plus signed up more than 1 million subscribers through pre-orders already, which previews a positive start for the streaming service, which will unite Disney and some Fox properties under one banner, according to TechCrunch.

Method: Jumpshot reviewed more than 100 million devices to receive customer insights. The firm can view people’s clicks, searches and transactions, including those hidden behind Amazon, Netflix and Google walls.

  • For this study, Jumpshot reviewed how many clicks the Disney Plus sign up page received and how many users followed through to purchase the product, according to TechCrunch.
  • The data is only limited to the United States, specifically mobile and desktop traffic. The numbers align with the pre-sale dates from Aug. 25 to Oct. 14.

Why it matters: “It’s not exactly a surprise that Disney Plus is already popular, due to Disney’s popularity as a whole, as well as the full range of favorite TV shows and movie that are included in the streaming service,” according to Digital Trends.
