“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” director J.J. Abrams recently told Entertainment Weekly exclusively what his favorite scene was from “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.”
What he said: Abrams said it was the scene from “Revenge of the Sith” in which Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) talks to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) about Darth Plageuis.
- The scene happens as they watch an opera event. This happens before Anakin becomes Darth Vader as well.
- “There’s just something about that scene,” Abrams told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s just two people sitting there. It’s visually interesting. But I just think Ian’s performance in it is spectacular.”
Context: Rumors suggest the new film will have references to the prequel and original trilogies since “Rise of Skywalker” marks the end of the Skywalker Saga.

But Abrams also nixed a prequel idea from “The Force Awakens,” according to Rolling Stone. The film would have had flags from podracers seen in “The Phantom Menace.”
