The Popeyes chicken sandwich is back, and Americans are reportedly waiting hours to try it.
What happened: On Sunday, Popeyes chicken brought back its viral chicken sandwich, which went viral in late August, early September before selling out, causing angst across the internet, sparking a debate between Chick-fil-A and Popeyes, in fact.
Throughout the week, Popeyes hyped up the return of its sandwich, dropped on Sunday — the day Chick-fil-A is closed for businesses.
And Americans came out for it.
- “Drive-thru lines are stretching into the streets, people are live-tweeting from their cars and chicken sandwich memes have hit what seems to be an all-time high,” according to CNN.
Context: To add to the rarity, the sandwich is only being sold at 150 locations across the U.S. — even though there are 3,000 Popeyes locations throughout the country, according to Quartz.
