SALT LAKE CITY — A day after turning back time, Cher has announced plans to come to Utah.
The pop star behind hits like “Believe,” “Half-Breed” and “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” announced Monday she’s extending her Here We Go Again tour into 2020, including a stop at Salt Lake City’s Vivint Arena April 28.
The performance will come a month after another female powerhouse vocalist, Celine Dion, graces the Vivint Arena stage.
At 73, Cher is far from slowing down. In 2018, the singer/actress returned to the big screen after an eight-year hiatus, starring in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.” The role led Cher to work on a new album, “Dancing Queen,” that features her renditions of ABBA songs — renditions that make “ABBA songs not only sound like they should’ve been written for her in the first place but like they firmly belong in 2018,” the Rolling Stone reported.
The success of the album, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was the singer’s first album in five years, led Cher to embark on her “Here We Go Again” tour in the fall of 2018. Originally, the tour would’ve ended December 2019. Now, it extends through May 2020.
So far, the North American leg of the tour has already sold more than half a million tickets, according to a news release.
In between tour dates, Cher is reportedly also working on a Christmas album, a second album of ABBA covers, an autobiography and a biographical film about her life. And on Nov. 25, the singer will perform on the finale of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Tickets for the Salt Lake City show go on sale to the general public Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 a.m. MT at LiveNation.com.
