Blue Lemon Restaurant, with locations in Highland, Farmington, Sandy, Salt Lake City and Cottonwood Heights, recently announced a fundraiser for The Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City. According to a news release, on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Blue Lemon will donate 10% of the purchases of any of its three new winter menu entrees to the charity organization which houses families while their sick or injured children are in area hospitals. Blue Lemon, a locally owned and operated restaurant, will also add a free cup of soup to each purchase of the new entrees on that day. The new entrees are as follows: Twisted Turkey Bowl, Blue Ramen and Cranberry Roasted Chicken. Soup options include butternut squash, tomato bisque, chipotle corn chowder or sweet potato chowder. Bountiful Davis Art Center, 90 N. Main, Bountiful, will host its third annual Gingerbread Festival in December. The organization is accepting entries Nov. 25-27. Individuals, groups and families are encouraged to enter. Categories include group effort, business, adults, youth and child. Houses must be made partially of edible material. Gingerbread houses may be sold through a silent auction. There is a $5 entry fee. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on Friday, Dec. 7. The Salt Lake City Arts Council invites Utah artists and teams to submit qualification for potential inclusion in the “2020 Pre-Qualified Artist Pool.” According to a news release, chosen artists will be commissioned for new public art projects. Samba Fogo, a local Brazilian music and dance company, recently won the 2019 Focus Brasil award. Artistic director Lorin Hansen accepted the award at an awards ceremony in Phoenix. According to a news release, the mission of Focus Brasil is to promote Brazilian culture worldwide. The award recognizes outstanding individuals and groups of all nationalities who work to positively represent Brazilian culture. Hansen also recently won the Adriana Lima Female Malandro Samba Dance Competition for the second year in a row at the 2019 International Samba Congress. The Samba Fogo dance company also won the inaugural Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro’s Group Samba Dance Competition in a unanimous decision from the judges. Utah Valley University’s Woodbury Art Museum recently announced a call for artists for its “Hidden Voices: Aesthetics of Change” exhibit. Entries will be accepted online at uvu.edu/museum through Nov. 19. According to a news release, the exhibit explores the power of art to creatively explore contemporary social issues that confront the cultural beliefs and established power structures of society that challenge ideas of equity, justice and sustainability. “Hidden Voices: Aesthetics of Change” will run Jan. 14-March 17. Craft Lake City is seeking volunteers for the first Craft Lake City Holiday Market in Ogden. The inaugural event will take place Dec. 7, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at The Monarch, 455 25th St., Ogden.
