ORLANDO, Fla. — Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will unveil its new ride — called the Rise of the Resistance — this week, and it’s bound to flood the waiting queue with excited Star Wars fans.
Wait times remain unclear. Workers on site generally believed the wait time will be about the same as the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride, which runs about 60 to 70 minutes during the day. It’s difficult to say what the expected wait time will be until after there’s a large debut.
But I took three different test runs of the Rise of the Resistance ride, and I can tell you that the ride keeps you moving, even after you move through the queue.
The setup: The queue brings you through a cutout of rocky walls and into a Resistance base at the Black Spire Outpost, the fictional smuggler’s bay for the planet Batuu, where Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge takes place.
- Once inside, you’re brought onto a transport ship, which gets captured by a star destroyer. You’re captured there and asked to wait in another line for the next phase of the ride.
- So, in a way, you get two rides for the price of one.
- Once you’re inside the next phase of the ride, you’ll be separated into different groups.
How many?: The ride will line up 16 travelers together. Those 16 will be split off into four different groups — red, blue, white and orange. The 16 will then be divided into different carts, which seat eight people each.
Context: The 16 riders for the second phase of the ride works well compared to the six people who ride the Smuggler’s Run attraction. This should help riders move through the second ride at a faster pace compared to Millennium Falcon.
