ORLANDO, Fla. — Rey plays a rather important role in the new Rise of Resistance ride at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.
The new ride, which will be unveiled to public Thursday, Dec. 5, includes a brief hologram message from Rey (played by actress Daisy Ridley). She appears to tell guests (who have taken on the role of Resistance recruits) that they need to keep the name of the secret Resistance base hidden at all costs. She jokes with BB-8 and informs travelers they will be traveling away from Batuu.
Rey doesn’t appear later in the ride — both Finn and Poe Dameron take over from there. But her appearance sheds light on what she’s doing ahead of the new film “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
Rey appeared dressed in a darker outfit, one similar to what she wore during “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” In this ride, she’s encouraging guests to prepare for anything, asking them to help keep the Resistance safe.
After the events of “The Last Jedi” — in which the First Order left the Resistance without many troops or weapons — this is a sign that Rey has taken on a bit of leadership for the Resistance, instructing new recruits on what to do as they become members of the team.
Her words indicate the Resistance is trying its best to remain hidden, too.
On Batuu: Now, Rey on the Rise of the Resistance ride is just one version of her. A cast member at Disney plays a roaming Rey character, who walks through the Black Spire Outpost.
- Rey didn’t spend much time waiting around. She’s constantly on the move. She stops to take photos with families, children and other guests. But she’s always moving, evading the First Order and Kylo Ren, who are both there as well.
Some fun: But don’t make her out to be a complete hard worker. A reporter stumbled upon Rey and Chewbacca participating in a friendly game of Sabaac in the Black Spire Outpost’s marketplace. Rey lost to Chewie. Watch footage of that below:
