SALT LAKE CITY — “Thor” star Idris Elba would like to come back for another Marvel movie soon.
According to KTSA, Elba, who plays Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said he’d like to make an appearance as the Bifrost guardian, despite being put down by Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.” While he notes he could appear in a prequel movie or the upcoming “Loki” series on Disney+, Elba also jokes that Heimdall could still be alive.
“Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there!” Elba said. “The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology. … And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive.”
Despite appearing as a supporting character, Heimdall filled important roles in his last two appearances. In “Thor: Ragnarok” he led an Asgardian resistance against Hela (Cate Blanchett) and he helped Hulk escape to Earth in the opening minutes of “Infinity War.”
If Heimdall happened to return for “Thor: Love and Thunder,” he wouldn’t be the only character returning. Deseret News previously reported Natalie Portman will be returning as Jane Foster. Additionally, rumors indicate Tom Hiddleston’s Loki could make an appearance following the events of his Disney+ series.
Elba has said for a while now he’d love to be involved more in Marvel’s movies — in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2017, the actor said he wished he could play a bigger part in the MCU.
“I wish I was more present in the Marvel family. I like what I have, but I also wish that I had a bigger character in the Marvel universe,” Elba said. “It’s been great, but I kinda think I need a bit more. I want to be a superhero. I like the idea of that.”
However, Elba may also be tied up in another comic book universe. I recently wrote for Deseret News that the actor may be under consideration for a role in James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” movie, which is set for a 2021 release date.
