Remember Matt the radar technician? He’s referenced in a new ‘Star Wars’ comic

Kylo Ren’s alter ego has been referenced in a few “Star Wars” adventures following a 2016 SNL sketch.

SALT LAKE CITY — A Saturday Night Live sketch starring Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren has been referenced in a recent “Star Wars” comic book.

Comic Book Resources reports “Star Wars: Age of Resistance — General Hux” follows Domhall Gleeson’s Hux, who manages the day-to-day operations of the First Order in “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens” before being sidelined by Kylo Ren in “The Last Jedi.” In the comic, Hux and Kylo Ren find themselves in a sabotaged spaceship.

After surviving a crash, Hux sets out exacting revenge on those he feels are responsible for the accident — an admiral who bullied him as a child and a “radar technician.”

In 2016, SNL aired a skit in which Kylo Ren goes undercover in an orange vest as “Matt the radar technician” to explore working conditions aboard Starkiller Base. You can view the video clip on YouTube.

ComicBook.com notes that after CBR posted a link to their article speculating on the “radar technician” reference, author Tom Taylor retweeted the post with a winking emoji. While it isn’t a confirmation Kylo Ren’s alter ego is canon, it still pays off as a fun reference to an excellent “Star Wars” parody.

This isn’t the first time the SNL sketch has been referenced, either — Nerdist notes an episode of the “Star Wars: Resistance” animated show features two main characters invading a First Order ship wearing goofy SNL-inspired orange vests.

Kylo Ren — but probably not Matt — will appear in “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker,” which hits theaters on Dec. 20.
