U.S. filmmaker Lee Loechler has gone viral for hacking his way into “Sleeping Beauty” so he could propose to his girlfriend.
What happened: Loechler and Australian animator Kayla Coombs hacked “Sleeping Beauty” so they could put Loechler and his girlfriend, Sthuthi David, into the spots of the main characters of the film, The Star reports.
- The duo changed the scene where Princess Aurora wakes up from the sleeping curse.
- Loechler: “For the past six months I’ve been animating my girlfriend and myself into her favourite movie, Sleeping Beauty. With the help of some local Redditors, I popped the question in a ‘crowded’ movie theater.”
- The scene shows the prince character opening a ring box. He throws it at Loechler (in real life), who catches it in real life. Loechler gets down on one knee. He proposes.
- See the entire video below. It does more than my words can.
Results: David said yes.
- Loechler: “The only thing better than seeing the smartest person I know completely dumbfounded was knowing we’d get to live happily ever after together.”

How he did it: Loechler rented a movie theater screening room at Coolidge Corner Theater. He created fake movie tickets. He tricked his girlfriend into thinking it was a real movie screening, Mashable reported.
- Loechler invited strangers inside to make it seem more normal.
- Loechler was pretty sure she would say yes. If she said no, the film would have shown an alternative ending where Snow White’s dwarfs cry on screen, according to Mashable.
