The Walt Disney Company has decided to drop the “Fox” brand from its 21st Century Fox assets, Variety reports.
What happened: Walt Disney Company changed the name of 20th Century Fox to 20th Century Studios and Fox Searchlight Pictures to Searchlight Pictures.
- No decision has been made about 20th Century Fox Television or Fox 21 Television Studios.
- 20th Century Fox Television became Disney Television Studios, though, according to The New York Times.
Why it matters: As CNN explained, the iconic brand appears before the title card for popular films such as “The Sound of Music” and “Star Wars.”
More phase out: Disney has already changed the email addresses for staffers, replacing fox.com with searchlightpictures.com at the end of those emails.
- The poster for the upcoming film “Downhill” — a Searchlight project starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell — includes the credit “Searchlight Pictures.” The film will debut with a new logo for the company, according to Variety.
