Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau drummed up some drama this week because he took a photo at a doughnut shop, CNN reports.
What’s going on: The controversy started after Trudeau shared a photo on Twitter of himself carrying seven boxes of doughnuts from the Oh Doughnuts shop in Winnipeg, Canada.
- Trudeau: “Picked up some of Winnipeg’s best to keep us going through another full day of cabinet meetings. Thanks for the fuel, @OhDoughnuts. #shoplocal.”

Response: Oh Doughnuts thanked Trudeau in its own tweet.
- Oh Doughnuts: “Thanks for stopping by @JustinTrudeau. We can confirm he carried these out the door. Pretty sure Health Canada would agree everything is OK in moderation.”
Social media controversy: Social media wasn’t exactly happy with Trudeau’s decision to buy doughnuts at Oh Doughnuts since they cost too much money
- The doughnuts cost $35 ($26.61 U.S.). An assortment of speciality doughnuts cost $47 Canadian ($35.73 U.S. ), according to the company’s website.
- But social media didn’t respect the high prices.
Paid for by Canadian Taxpayers? “Try not to inhale”??
