Colin Farrell recently opened up about his upcoming superhero flick “The Batman” in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, according to Entertainment Weekly.

What he said: Farrell, who will play the villain the Penguin in the DC Comics superhero film, said he read the script for the upcoming film and called it “really beautiful, dark, moving.”

  • Farrell: “I’m in the process of talking to Matt Reeves, who’s the director, who wrote the script, and wrote a really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous.”
  • Farrell: It’s all very hush hush, but it’s a really beautiful script that he wrote and he has a real love for it, Matt. So, we’re in the process of finishing designing the aesthetic of the character.”

Rumors: Earlier this month, “The Batman” director Matt Reeves confirmed Farrell was going to play a role in the film after a number of rumors circulated online, according to the Deseret News.

  • Reeves tweeted a GIF of Farrell with the caption: “Wait — is that you, #Oz?”
  • The “Oz” mention is a reference to the Penguin’s real name Oswald Cobblepot.
  • Previous rumors suggested Jonah Hill might play the character, Variety reported. Hill was also potentially up for the role of the Riddler but decided to move on. Actor Paul Dano was chosen for that role instead.
