The setup: “The Eternals” is an upcoming MCU film that will focus on a group of newly evolved humans called the Eternals, which are created by the Celestials, a powerful race that exist in the cosmos.

What happened: Marvel Entertainment released a new concept art photo during a recent episode of “Earth’s Mightiest Show,” a brand-produced rundown of all Marvel news.

  • See a screenshot of the photo below.

Flashback: One Celestial character previously appeared in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” according to ComicBookMovie.com. The character was destroyed and later became known as Knowhere, which made an appearance in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

In the comics: Celestials are a race of characters in the Marvel comics. They are cosmic beings that influence human history. They’re apparently responsible for human evolution events.

  • Per the Marvel Database, the Celestials are directly responsible for “the genetic-offshoot races the Eternals and the Deviants as well as the emergence of super-humans both through the inclusion of the X-Gene and through beneficial mutation (e.g. Bruce Banner becoming the Hulk when exposed to gamma rays instead of dying).”
  • Eternals have more superpowers and longer lives than most humans.
  • A separate race called the Deviants are monster-like humans trying to take down the Eternals.
  • The Latents are a similar mutant race.

Release: The film arrives Nov. 6.
