James Redford — a filmmaker and activist — has died at the age of 58. James Redford was the son of legendary actor Robert Redford.

  • Robert Redford’s publicist, Cindi Berger, said in a statement to CBS News and Today.com Monday that Redford is mourning with is family during this “difficult time.”
  • “The grief is immeasurable with the loss of a child,” Berger said in a statement. “Jamie was a loving son, husband and father. His legacy lives on through his children, art, filmmaking and devoted passion to conservation and the environment.”

James Redford reportedly saw his liver disease return two years ago. Cancer was discovered in November while waiting for a liver transplant, according to CBS News.

James’ wife, Kyle Redford, posted a series of photos of James on Twitter, expressing sorrow for losing him.

  • “Jamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many. He will be deeply missed. As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o them over the past 2yrs.”

The Sundance Institute published a thread on James’ death Monday, too.
