Disneyland remains closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. But that didn’t stop one California man from building his own version of it in his backyard.

What’s going on?

  • Steve Dobbs said he saw Disneyland get built back when he lived in Anaheim, California, more than 60 years ago. He almost worked at Disney before deciding to work in the aerospace field, according to SF Gate.
  • Now, he’s putting his engineering skills to work, building a Disneyland-like park in his own backyard. It includes rides like “Tiny World” — a play off “It’s a Small World” — and the Sleeping Princess Castle, which is similar to the Frozen Ever After ride at Epcot in Walt Disney World, SF Gate reports.

  • Dobbs also created a small version of Main Street USA with a M&M railroad attached to it. There’s also a movie theater that shows old Disney cartoons.
  • He plans to create a version of the Haunted Mansion next.

Getting creative amid a pandemic

People have had to get creative with their appreciation for Disneyland since the pandemic began. For example, a Texas man built an entire replica of Disneyland with Legos. It took him more than two years to build.

“That was when I decided I’d make my own Disneyland,” Daugherty said. “All those sets could be put together and make a miniature version of the park.”
