A new “Star Wars” comic recently revealed the origins of Vanee, the dark disciple of Darth Vader who first made an appearance in “Rogue One” — and it’s a tragic story.
In “Rogue One,” a cloaked figure approaches Darth Vader’s recovery tank. The servant wears a dark cloak and kneels before Vader’s tank.
The figure says, “My lord, director Krennic has arrived.”
Moments later, Darth Vader emerges from the tank and speaks with Krennic.
So who was that servant? Well, his name is Vanee, and he was actually once an imperial inspector.
Who is Vanee?
The new comic “Shadows of Vader’s Castle” from IDW Publishing reveals the truth about Vanee. He was once an imperial inspector who became crazed once he was put under Vader’s influence, according to Comic Book Resource.
- Vanee visited Vader’s castle to inspect its safety after several troopers stationed there had gone mad from a hallucinogenic smoke. He was attacked by one such trooper. But Vanee fought him off and traveled through the castle, which had been filled with the smoke. He saw horrifying images but didn’t succumbed to them in any way.
- Eventually, Vanee found Darth Vader, who wanted to keep the gases on until Vader found a servant for him.
- “Vader thought Vanee was a perfect candidate, perhaps seeing the potential in Vanee’s mental fortitude or deciding to punish the inspector for intruding upon him during a private moment,” according to Comic Book Resource.
Vanee stayed at the location and eventually become mad because of the gases and then devoted himself to follow the Sith and Lord Vader.
