Warning: This episode contains spoilers for season 2, episode 4 of ‘The Mandalorian’
The most recent episode of “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” has a pretty remarkable easter egg that serves as a callback to the season 1 finale.
The episode — titled “The Siege” — shows the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and the Child (Baby Yoda) returning to Nevarro to get some repairs done to the Razor’s Crest ship. While there, they meet up with old friends Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Cara Dune (Gina Carano).
Greef and Cara bring Mando and the Child into the nearby outpost, where they speak about an old Imperial base that needs to be destroyed. So begins the rest of the episode.
An easter egg
Eagle-eyed viewers noticed there’s a statue in the background of the outpost. The statue shows the robot IG-11, the famous robot from season 1 that sacrificed its life to save the Mandalorian and the rest of the crew.
At the end of season 1, IG-11 sacrificed himself through self-destruction, killing a bunch of stormtroopers and preventing the Empire from capturing the Child. This allowed the Mandalorian to disable Moff Gideon’s TIE fighter, which ended the Empire’s reign over the outpost.
- Mandalorian and the Child escaped from the location thereafter.
