Warning: This review contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 8 of ‘The Mandalorian.’
A legendary “Star Wars” character made his return in “The Mandalorian” season 2 finale, and it’s one you’ll want to see play out in real-time.
The legendary “Star Wars” character appeared toward the end of the episode. The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) has defeated Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in combat. The Dark Troopers board the Imperial starship, though, and looked to break into the main cabin to destroy Mando and his crew.
Then, an X-Wing appears on the map and arrives on the ship. A character exits in a black cloak, wielding a green lightsaber. The character rips through the Dark Troopers, destroying each of them.
Yes, if you haven’t guessed already, the character who appeared was, indeed, Luke Skywalker.
How did it play out?
Luke appeared before Mando, asking permission to take Grogu with him to teach him the ways of the Force. Mando asked if he was a Jedi, and Luke said he was.
Grogu seemed uneasy about joining Luke, and Mando didn’t think Grogu wanted to go. So Luke explained the matter.
- “He wants your permission. He is strong with the Force, but talent without training is nothing. I will give my life to protect the Child, but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities.”
Who played Luke Skywalker?
- The show credit Mark Hamill with the role. It didn’t appear to be another actor. Another actor likely stood in Skywalker’s place with Hamill’s face was digitally added onto the character.
Any other legendary characters?
Luke wasn’t the only legendary character who appeared in the finale.
- R2-D2 briefly showed up on the show, too. He rolled onto the screen and chatted with Grogu (Baby Yoda for a few seconds).
- Bib Fortuna, one of Jabba the Hutt’s henchmen, also showed up in the end credits scene.
