“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson recently revealed that Anakin Skywalker’s Force ghost almost appeared in the eighth “Star Wars” film.
What’s happening?
In a recent Twitter thread, Johnson said that he almost added Anakin Skywalker’s Force ghost into “The Last Jedi” to talk with his son, Luke Skywalker. However, he changed his mind since Anakin and Luke don’t have a strong relationship.
- “Briefly for the tree burning scene, but luke’s relationship was with Vader not really anakin, which seemed like it would complicate things more than that moment allowed. Yoda felt like the more impactful teacher for that moment,” Johnson said in a tweet.

The question came from a fan who wondered if Anakin’s ghost was going to meet with Rey or Luke Skywalker in “The Last Jedi.”
Rumors about Anakin Skywalker
Rumors existed for months that Anakin Skywalker would appear in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” as a Force ghost. But he did not appear there. Instead, his voice was used when Rey is asking for help from previous Jedi Knights.
One “Star Wars” fan posted an edit that includes Alex Guinness as Obi Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.
