“The Mandalorian” showrunner Jon Favreau recently clarified details about the upcoming show “The Book of Boba Fett,” identifying it as a standalone, spinoff show rather than a season 3 of “The Mandalorian.”
Context:
“The Mandalorian” season 2 finale had an end credits scene that showed Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) entering Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine and taking the throne. A title card flashed up that announced that “The Book of Boba Fett” is coming in December 2021.
Fans speculated about whether or not it was a spinoff or a third season of “The Mandalorian.”
What happened next:
Favreau clarified what the show will be about in an interview with “Good Morning America.”
Favreau said the show — which will have director Robert Rodriguez as an executive producer — will be its separate entity.
“We didn’t want to spoil the surprise during the big Kathleen Kennedy announcement of all the shows (during Investor Day earlier this month), so they let me keep this one a secret, “ Favreau says. “So this is actually separate from ‘The Mandalorian’ season 3. But what we didn’t say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called ‘the next chapter’ — is going to be ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ and then we go into production right after that on ‘The Mandalorian,’ back with the main character that we all know and love ... pretty soon following that. There’s a lot of ‘Star Wars’ content coming out, I think they announced 10 projects, I think this will be 11.”
