“The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano recently praised Rosario Dawson for her debut as Ahsoka Tano on the “Star Wars” spinoff.
What happened:
Carano tweeted a lot of fire emojis about Dawson’s debut. She quote tweeted a photo of Ahsoka created by digital artist boss Logic.
Dawson debuted as Ahsoka in the fifth episode of the series — titled “The Jedi” — and helped Baby Yoda learn his real name (Grogu) and get in touch with the Force.
Dawson said she’d love to return to the role in an interview with StarWars.com.
“I mean, I would love that opportunity,” she says. “I think it’s so cool that this show exists. I think it’s so cool that I got to show up and give information about this character, the Child, that everyone’s loved so much. You know, that she was not so much showing up as a cameo, but really being a storytelling device for new fans that have fallen in love with yet another new character that we’re getting to see grow. Little Grogu is just amazing.
“It’s interesting watching ‘The Mandalorian,’ realizing you’re not seeing lightsabers, you’re not seeing a lot of what we love about ‘Star Wars.’ It was really amazing to be able to have that gift of being able to bring that into this series and into this space, and I’m really grateful for that opportunity.”
Carano and social media
Carano’s social media feed has fallen under fire in recent weeks. Carano previously talked about voter fraud in the 2020 election, even tweeting a message about getting rid of fake votes and requiring identification at the voting booths, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
She also tweeted a meme that mocked face masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Fans launched the #FireGinaCarano hashtag in response.
One recent episode of “The Mandalorian” included a storyline that hinted Carano’s character might be exiting the show, or heading into a bigger role as a New Republic fighter.
