Justin Bieber’s decision to buy some tribute art for Kobe Bryant led to a new charity that will be donated to Kobe Bryant’s charity, according to multiple reports.
What’s going on?
- Justin Bieber bought a piece of Kobe Bryant tribute art from a company called Idiot Box Art. The artists behind the project — Emily Bright and Tamara Martin — made new versions of the art and sold them for $200 a piece, TMZ reports.
- Now, the company will donate 24% of the profit to the MambaOnThree Fund, which was created to honor Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant and the seven others who died in a tragic helicopter crash, including Alyssa Altobelli, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, Christina Mauser and pilot Ara Zobayan.
- The company sold 260 different paintings in two days, making a $12,480 donation to the foundation.
What does Justin Bieber’s Kobe Bryant art look like?
- The wall art shows a teddy bear wearing a No. 8 Kobe Bryant jersey.
- Bieber reportedly paid $1,200 for his bigger version of the art. He hung it up on the wall next to some skateboard decks.
More tribute art in Utah
- As I wrote, an artist from California painted a tribute art piece for the Silicon Slopes tech summit in Salt Lake City. The artist, James Burt, told me he grew up a fan of Kobe Bryant and he wanted to pay homage to him with the painting.
- Burt: “With the tragedy of Kobe Bryant, it was a no-brainer for me. I knew that it was going to mean something special to me. I knew it was going to mean something special to a lot of people here. So I dropped that and decided to go with that.”
