“Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” is getting a reboot with an even smaller title — “Shrunk.” But the cast is packed with big names, including Rick Moranis, who will return to the franchise.
What’s going on?
- According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moranis will return to the new take on the franchise, which will be a reboot from Disney.
- Josh Gad will star as the son of Moranis’ character Wayne Szalinski.
- Gad will play either Nick or Adam Szalinski in the reboot. Both of those characters appeared in previous films for the franchise.

- “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” led to the sequel “Honey, I Blew Up the Kid” and a straight-to-DVD film “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.” Moranis starred in all three.
- Moranis is well known for his roles in “Ghostbusters” and “Spaceballs.”
- Per Deadline: “Disney was trying to quiet rumors that Moranis was returning, but our breaking news today is that his deal, is done.”
Leaving acting for family
- Moranis stopped acting in 1997 to take care of his family. He did provide various voiceover work in the meantime, according to Deadline.
- “I pulled out of making movies in about ’96 or ’97,” he told USA Today in 2005. “I’m a single parent, and I just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit of a break. And the little bit of a break turned into a longer break, and then I found that I really didn’t miss it.”
