Vanessa Bryant revealed Thursday that she has changed the name of the Mamba Sports Foundation in order to honor her late husband Kobe Bryant and her late daughter Gianna Bryant.
What happened to Mamba Sports Foundation?
- Vanessa Bryant posted a photo on Instagram revealing the name change of the foundation, which will now be called Mamba Mambacita Sports Foundation, according to Entertainment Tonight.
- Vanessa Bryant said: “Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. Our mission remains the same — and stronger than ever — to provide opportunities to young people through sports. Thank you all for the outpouring of support and your kind donations to date as we carry forth Kobe and Gigi’s legacy. We hope to empower young athletes in a world they left us all to help shape. #Mamba #Mambacita.”
- The foundation also revealed the name change in a tweet: “In commemoration of Gianna “Gigi” Bryant, Mamba Sports Foundation will now be known as the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. The Foundation exists to further Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s legacy in youth sports and beyond.”
Kobe Bryant and daughter laid to rest
- Multiple reports suggest that Vanessa Bryant and her family laid both Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant to rest at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California, on Friday, Feb. 7.
- The private funeral happened about two weeks after the tragic helicopter crash that killed the two Bryant family members along with seven others.
- The Staples Center plans to host a public memorial service on Feb. 24 — or “2/24,” the jersey numbers of Kobe (No. 24) and Gianna (No. 2).
