KRCL, The Gateway and The Blocks are partnering up for International Women’s Day to commission local artists for a special live painting mural project depicting “Queens of Music.” Women artists are asked to pay homage to their favorite female musician in any of these categories: soul, country, hip-hop, rock ’n’ roll, pop, punk, funk, retro soul or other favorite genres. Artist proposals will be accepted thru Feb. 21. Eight muralists will be selected based on submissions to paint their chosen artist during the March 7 International Women’s Day festival. Paintings will be done on 8-foot cubes to be located at The Gateway and potentially around downtown Salt Lake to showcase their works to a wider audience. Artists are asked to submit an inspiration mood board, examples of previous artwork, a summary of their concept and why they selected their particular musician. Each artist will receive a $750 award for their live painting project. For further details, visit shopthegateway.com
