America Ferrera announced she will be leaving behind her roles as executive producer and star of NBC’s hit sitcom “Superstore” after five seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
The award-winning actress confirmed that she will not return for the show’s sixth season through a post on Instagram.
“The last five years on Superstore have been some of the most rewarding, enriching and enjoyable years of my career,” Ferrera wrote on Instagram, adding, “As I start the next chapter for my family and career, I wish only the best, and much continued success, to my beloved Superstore family.”
Ferrera, who has also directed several episodes of the series, is currently pregnant with her second child, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Motherhood has been amazing,” Ferrera said, according to People, before adding, “Now that I’m gonna have two, I’m sure that’s just gonna get even more complicated.”
Ferrera is also currently working as an executive producer on the Netflix series “Gentefied,” and is also known for her award-winning role in the 2006 series “Ugly Betty,” according to People.
“America is a force of nature who not only pours her heart and soul into acting and producing on ‘Superstore,’ but into the many causes and initiatives she supports,” Universal TV president Pearlena Igbokwe, said in a statement according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Over the last five seasons she has earned our gratitude and respect.”
