Vanessa Bryant revealed Wednesday that the middle school her late daughter Gianna Bryant attended will retire the young girl’s basketball jersey number.

What happened: Vanessa Bryant revealed the school’s decision in an Instagram post.
Vanessa: “My Gigi. I love you! I miss you. You’ve taught us all that no act of kindness is ever too small. Mommy is still and will ALWAYS be so proud of you mamacita.”
Similar: The University of Connecticut honored Gianna Bryant’s No. 2 jersey in the immediate wake of her death, according to Bleacher Report. The school left one of the seats open before a game against Team USA to honor her, too.
What’s next: As I wrote earlier this week, the bodies of Gianna and Kobe Bryant — along with Payton Chester, 13, Sarah Chester, 45, Alyssa Altobelli, 14, Keri Altobelli, 46, John Altobelli, 56, Christina Mauser, 38 and pilot Ara Zobayan, 50, have been returned to their families.
