Actor Tom Hanks shared another update on his status after being diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, and the internet roasted him for it.
What happened:
- Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus last week. The two tested positive while they were in Australia for an Elvis Presley biopic.
- Sunday morning, Hanks gave a status update via Instagram. He shared a photo that showed a toy kangaroo, a glass of water and a bottle of Vegemite — an Australian spread often added on toast.
- Hanks wrote: “Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.”
The internet reacted to the photo
The internet immediately took umbrage with the Vegemite. In joking tweets, twitter users slammed Hanks for using so much of the spread.
On a more serious note:
Hanks posted a photo of himself and his wife the day after the diagnosis was revealed. He thanked all of his supporters, as I wrote for the Deseret News.
- Hanks wrote: “Hello folks. Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have COVID-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else.”
- Hanks continued: “There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”
